  • LESS CONTROL in EUROPEAN BINGO ROOMS

    Posted on July 29th, 2009 - Julie @ 4:15 pm

Online games have been gathering more and more followers throughout the world in the recent years. With the passing of time, the offer is more secure and attractive, and that makes players feel tempted to sign up into some of the millions and millions virtual bingo rooms. This growth is accompanied by the need for agencies to establish control and regulation to businesses providing services to online gambling all over the world.

Regarding our country, everybody knows bingo is the most popular pastime here, with thousands of licensed bingo rooms, clubs and other minor establishments where this game is usually played. So, the British Gambling Commission are being faced with two relevant facts:

The vast number of applications for new bingo rooms calls for strict regulations
The popularity of bingo has helped increase the national treasury
These two antagonistic clauses have already caused a couple of headaches, so the British government have now consulted some international bingo experts to help them cope with the situation and keep the balance between them.

It’s just fair that all commercial bingo operators need a specific operating licence, and some staff members may also need their personal licences to be able to work in the world of bingo, as well as the non-remote bingo operators also need a premises licence issued by their local Authority. But that should be all - imposing extreme tax measures may backfire.

In consequence, the summoned experts may form a sort of counselling body, whose main objective would be to seek the most effective way to achieve a legal framework for the regulation of online gaming. This body would be quite similar to the one that has recently started to operate in Spain, which is composed of members of the Spanish Confederation of Employers of Bingo and the representatives of the trade union UGT, CCOO and USO.

In any case, the aim should be to protect players and provide a framework for competition between gambling suppliers, and fair gambling for everyone.
