Bingo halls in Wales threatened to close

Posted on May 27th, 2009 - Julie @ 10:40 am

Bingo Halls are very popular across the Europe, especially in the UK. But with the rising taxes and the economic weather the world is facing, a lot of bingo halls are closing across the country and perhaps around the globe. The tons of bingo clubs across Wales are being threatened by these factors and sooner or later there may be none left. Let’s read more about this shocking news below.

Well, once the new tax has been implemented, there’s no shock about it at all. Bingo halls face closure because of the new bingo duty rate. It has increased from already a high 15% to a whopping 22%. Even if the VAT was removed particularly on the participation fees, it will surely affect a lot of the bingo halls across the UK. Instead of benefiting the industry, the loss of VAT resulted to a high bingo duty rate that most, if not all, bingo operators will have to pay for.

Over the last few years, the bingo industry has already suffered a lot with the increasing tax rates but we are still to see more of bingo hall closures with the latest bingo rates. Earlier this week, there was already a move sent to the House of Commons to change the tax system. Nevertheless, it was still outvoted. What will happen to the bingo clubs? We honestly think that they are simply counting their days of operation. This will certainly hit them big and hard and we don’t know until how long these bingo clubs will last.

According to the bingo experts, the government of the UK is being unfair to the bingo industry. There are about three million people who play the game of bingo on a regular basis and it would be a tragedy to leave this people without bingo halls to play at.
